TTC-Workshop ”From Nano to Macro”: Engineering across the Lenght Scale

”From Nano to Macro”

Successful 3-day workshop on particle engineering

”From Nano to Macro”

The TTC Technology Training Center hosted its workshop “Particle Engineering across the Length scale” at Glatt Ingenieurtechnik in Weimar from October 24 to 26, 2017. Most of the participants were product or process developer or researcher from universities or R&D and production manager from the international food, feed, pharmaceutical and chemical industry.

The first workshop day focused on the theoretical background of particle engineering, while the second & third day consisted of several practical sessions in the Technology Center at Glatt Ingenieurtechnik. The possibilities for particle design and particle engineering using fluidized bed processes generated intensive and interesting discussions. The feedback on the combination of theoretical and practical sessions was thoroughly positive. The participants were also impressed by the service portfolio of the Technology Center. Feasibility studies, product & process development as well as contract manufacturing services can be offered.

The guided tour through Weimar connected with a dinner in the Felsenkeller in Weimar provided an ideal platform for exchange of experience and social networking.

Company information

Glatt Ingenieurtechnik GmbH
Glatt Ingenieurtechnik GmbH
Glatt is specialized in intelligent particle design for the generation and functionalization of powders and granulates with defined, adjustable properties. The focus is on particles and powders for pigments, catalytic, ceramic or battery materials as well as for granules and pellets as additives for e.g. industrial salts, detergents and cleaning agents, fertilizers, pesticides, food, feed, dietary supplements and pharmaceuticals. Encapsulation of flavors, enzymes, vitamins, microorganisms, probiotics or fatty acids (PUFA) is just as possible as encapsulation of essential oils and other active, sensitive substances to be protected. With Glatt APPtec®, a unique technology for spray calcination, it is possible to generate, coat and then calcine particles in a pulsing hot gas stream in a single process step. As a pioneer in fluid bed and spouted bed technologies, Glatt masters these important processes for the formulation and optimization of particle properties through defined spray agglomeration, spray granulation, spray coating or (micro)encapsulation as well as through combinations of these processes. Also in the high temperature range. Glatt supports the product idea from the early phase of product formulation through process development to scale-up to production scale. Under the leadership of the Glatt Process & Plant Engineering teams, customized production plants for nutrition, fine chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and biotech applications are successfully planned and commissioned. Worldwide. Whether based on powder synthesis, fluid bed or spouted bed technology, Glatt also offers certified contract manufacturing for customers without their own production capacities.

for cleaning in running fluid bed operations With Glatt Ingenieurtechnik’s newly developed spray nozzle device, the inner tube can be removed and cleaned safely while the process is still running. When it comes to spray granulating, spray agglomerating or spray coating and drying food ingredients by fluidized or spouted bed technology, spray nozzles play a key role in quality control. With its hygienic, explosion-proof removable spray nozzles for the food and pharmaceutical industries, particle design specialist Glatt Ingenieurtechnik sets new standards in process safety and plant availability. If unexpected quality issues arise during the fluidized bed process, such as particles becoming too large or coarse, it might be because of a change in the nozzle spray pattern. Sticky or crystallizing spray fluids such as salts or sugar may induce fluctuations in the spray pattern, and also hygroscopic products which sometimes remain in the plant during downtime. A spray unit consists of a fluid-carrying inner
