Muller Beltex all-round in process security

Muller Beltex’s monitoring systems monitor all critical components of transport and process installations and thus guarantee explosion-proof and reliable handling of bulk materials in almost all industrial sectors.
As a service supplier of high-quality systems and components for, among others, elevators, belt conveyors and screening installations, Muller Beltex ensures that these systems meet all technical requirements. The company also provides solutions to continuously monitor the condition. and operation of equipment to ensure the continuity of production processes.
Also wear-resistant coverings contribute to safe and sustainable processes.

Elevators

For the monitoring of elevators, Muller Beltex presents in-house developed fail-safe systems as well as third-party products. This allows end users to ensure trouble-free and safe transport, while also fully complying with Atex directives.

Belt misalignment monitoring

One example is the Rub-Block-based belt misalignment monitoring system with a Pt100 temperature sensor. When a misalignment occurs, the belt will run against the RubBlock (a brass rubbing plate), causing its temperature to rise. If the temperature rises above a set value, an alarm is triggered and action can be taken. The Pt100 sensor gives a permanent standby signal, so the system is continuously monitored for proper connection. The Rub-Block is not sensitive to contamination, making it an extremely reliable solution.

Bearing temperature monitoring

In addition, transport and process installations can be fitted with a bearing temperature monitor. This adjustable sensor is sensitive to heat development in case of bearing wear or overload. If the temperature rises, an alarm is generated, just like with misalignment monitoring. An installation can also be shut down at a certain bearing temperature to prevent dangerous situations. Indeed, overheating of bearings is a potential ignition source for dust-air mixtures.

Belt slip detection

For the detection of belt slip, Muller Beltex recommends a closed WG element, for measuring the speed on the axis of the drum. This Atex-certified element is easy to mount thanks to a magnet.

Watchdog PLC

The various monitoring systems can be connected to the ’Watchdog Super Elite’ mini-PLC from UK manufacturer 4B. The Watchdog is particularly interesting for solitary installations that are not connected to a central PLC. The unit records all process parameters and allows response to any alarms. The Watchdog has a colour LCD display for graphical displays. Communication is possible via, among others, an Ethernet RJ45 port for Profibus/Modbus TCP.

Engineering

Besides a comprehensive package of process monitoring systems, Muller Beltex also offers engineering, assembly, technical support and supervision services. The company has great expertise and extensive experience in finding suitable solutions, where quality and safety are paramount. It is therefore advisable to involve Muller Beltex in projects at an early stage.

Process monitoring systems

The Muller Beltex programme of process monitoring systems includes all products which can be important for the safe operation of transport and process installations:
  • Belt misalignment monitoring
  • Bearing temperature monitoring
  • Speed monitoring
  • Level measurement systems
  • Controllers, indicators and transmitters
  • Data acquisition & SCADA systems
  • Explosion pressure relief panels
  • Flameless pressure relief panels

Wear-resistant linings and sieve balls

In many screening applications, the screening deck is cleaned by screening balls, which are located on a grid directly under the screening mesh. During the sieving process, the balls bump against the screen mesh, keeping the meshes open and clean. Muller Beltex’s Karolee sieve balls are made of hard-wearing polyurethane and have a permanent elasticity, which keeps them actively cleaning for a long time. The material is impervious to attachment or absorption of product and is bacteriologically safe. The balls are lightweight and therefore safe for screening mesh. The operational safety of many processes benefits from the application of wear-resistant linings. Muller Beltex offers a range of solutions for this. For example, excessive wear and product sticking can be prevented by lining installations with the durable Kryptane. This wear-resistant polyurethane has a low coefficient of friction, does not absorb moisture and is permitted for dry foodstuffs. It is suitable for coating, for example, chain conveyors, screw conveyors and screening installations, as well as elevator hoods, hoppers, chutes and drop tubes. Muller Beltex can supply the material from stock in standard sheet sizes 3050 x 1220 mm.

Overhaul of concrete mixing plant during the summer season
For summer time maintenance, Muller Beltex prepares an inspection report with recommendations taking into account urgencies and the available budget. Many concrete mixing plants perform maintenance on their installations during the construction holiday. They aim to bring their plants back up to date so as to optimise performance in terms of capacity, as well as the service life of wear components. Muller Beltex is regularly involved in this and first conducts an on-site inspection that in detail reviews the product overshoot area’s, chutes and bunkers, as well as the abrasion-resistant Kryptane® liners to determine whether it is due for replacement. The result is an inspection report with recommendations that also considers urgencies and the available budget. That the elevator becomes dirty is a common occurrence, but there also is a great deal of wear and tear on the: – Steel elevator parts – Bucket elevator belt – Elevator buckets – Elevator’s inlet and outlet – Pulleys and pulley lagging Based on the inspection report, Muller Beltex looks after the maintenance, assembly and installation,

Inspection and overhaul of IGMA Amsterdam terminal elevator
Overhaul makes elevator better than ever. Muller Beltex has worked for IGMA for many years and is jointly responsible for the installations. The work we performed Elaborate inspections of the technical components of one of the floating weighing towers, a 36 MT crane with a capacity of 1500 MT/hour. The report showed that certain components required action in order to guarantee reliability; preventive and corrective maintenance. Belt replacement Wear on the back of the bucket elevator belt was observed making the belt’s replacement a necessity. This was also true for the rubber pulley lagging of both drive pulleys. The crowning of the return pulleys, which was too much, exerted unnecessarily high forces and friction on the belt, as well as on the belt fastener and elevator buckets. Proper planning By preparing a suitable and thorough action plan, with a realistic time span for implementing the inspection report’s recommendations, it was decided to carry out the various activities in a single efficient stop. The existing belts and both drive pulleys were hoisted to the lower deck using a telescopic

Strategic alliance of Muller Beltex, V.A.V. and Bechtel
Solid partners join forces and consolidate expertise and know-how. Muller Beltex BV, V.A.V. Aandrijvingen BV and Germany based Bechtel GmbH have announced their strategic alliance. By a transfer of shares, the owners Lars Muller and Emiel Schoutsen have established this cooperation. The know-how and expertise in components for bulk handling equipment is not limited to the Netherlands and Germany, where the three companies are located. They operate worldwide and the close cooperation between the three companies will therefore provide major benefits for their entire, geographically widespread, customer base. Both owners emphasize that this alliance is not a merger and that the companies will retain their own identities. Company locations and contact points will remain unchanged. The advantages arising from the collaboration are, in particular, the bundling of their expertise and the use of each other’s network, especially abroad. In certain markets or geographic regions, the one partner is better represented than the other.
