Size reduction and particle size analysis

in the paint and coatings industry

In the paint and coatings industry, the Variable Speed Rotor Mill PULVERISETTE 14 is used since many years for powder coatings. This Rotor Mill is used for both: to grind small batches of powder coatings and in research and development to clarify analytical facts.

During the last years it is getting more and more important to produce fine coloured pigments. FRITSCH Planetary Ball Mills are optimal suited to grind coloured pigments down to the nanometer range. This can often occur completely unexpected effects - from brilliant colours to discreation of actually desired color effects.

When grinding pigments, very often the color of the pigment as well as the achievable color shade changes. To generate these results reproducible, the determination of particle size distribution achieved during the grinding process is mandatory. The models of the FRITSCH Laser Particle Sizers ANALYSETTE 22 are used worldwide for this application. They offer with short analysis times, safely and reliably reproducible results comparable to each other - decisive advantages for precise determination of particle sizes.

Due to the use of FRITSCH high-performance mills it is possible to develop innovative pigments in laboratory scale and to produce small quantities of special colours for the production of high quality items. For example, for many years in the porcelain industry very special onglaze colours are created.
