Elevators and risk of explosion – Prevention is the better cure

Muller Beltex is a service supplier of high-quality components for elevators. We help you to secure the mechanical side of your elevator.
An important next step in this process is monitoring to make sure continuity is guaranteed. Considering an elevator is an enclosed system, knowing what is going on inside the elevator is a must. After all, prevention is the better cure. Both preventive and curative measures must be taken to ensure full and safe monitoring. To guarantee this, Muller Beltex offers a total solution with “fail safe” products it has developed and engineered itself along with external components to be able to supply a complete elevator in conformity with the latest ATEX directives.

Muller Beltex’ monitoring systems oversee the entire production process thus ensuring a sustainable, problem-free bulk processing and optimum reliability.

Multiple use belt fastener for replacing steel cord elevator belts
The elevator belt in combination with the belt clamps is the most important part of a bucket elevator and is exposed to different conditions during operation. Heavy duty industry demands the utmost performance of components used in elevators. Higher loads, longer center distances, higher temperatures and tough applications require specific knowledge, a different approach and innovative solutions. Wear in the elevator The elevator belt is the heart of the elevator. All the additional items that will be fitted on the belt like elevator buckets, bolts and belt fasteners are in sense foreign objects to the belt, which in the long run could result into stress and wear, due to the pressure of these parts while running over the pulleys. Every elevator belt will first develop wear and tear in those areas where these foreign objects are attached to the belt, whether the application is hot or cold. To avoid such premature wear, in particular in the cement industry, the belt should have a maximum temperature resistance and all items attached to the belt should be as light as possible. Once a belt is aging due to affection of heat,

Muller Beltex all-round in process security
Muller Beltex’s monitoring systems monitor all critical components of transport and process installations and thus guarantee explosion-proof and reliable handling of bulk materials in almost all industrial sectors. As a service supplier of high-quality systems and components for, among others, elevators, belt conveyors and screening installations, Muller Beltex ensures that these systems meet all technical requirements. The company also provides solutions to continuously monitor the condition. and operation of equipment to ensure the continuity of production processes. Also wear-resistant coverings contribute to safe and sustainable processes. Elevators For the monitoring of elevators, Muller Beltex presents in-house developed fail-safe systems as well as third-party products. This allows end users to ensure trouble-free and safe transport, while also fully complying with Atex directives. Belt misalignment monitoring One example is the Rub-Block-based belt misalignment monitoring system with a Pt100 temperature sensor. When a misalignment occurs, the belt will run against the RubBlock (a brass rubbing plate), causing its temperature to rise. If the temperature rises above

Inspection and overhaul of IGMA Amsterdam terminal elevator
Overhaul makes elevator better than ever. Muller Beltex has worked for IGMA for many years and is jointly responsible for the installations. The work we performed Elaborate inspections of the technical components of one of the floating weighing towers, a 36 MT crane with a capacity of 1500 MT/hour. The report showed that certain components required action in order to guarantee reliability; preventive and corrective maintenance. Belt replacement Wear on the back of the bucket elevator belt was observed making the belt’s replacement a necessity. This was also true for the rubber pulley lagging of both drive pulleys. The crowning of the return pulleys, which was too much, exerted unnecessarily high forces and friction on the belt, as well as on the belt fastener and elevator buckets. Proper planning By preparing a suitable and thorough action plan, with a realistic time span for implementing the inspection report’s recommendations, it was decided to carry out the various activities in a single efficient stop. The existing belts and both drive pulleys were hoisted to the lower deck using a telescopic

Intervention leads to preservation: Full elevator overhaul at Codrico
Inspection revealed that the elevator belt was due for replacement, and it needed new wear plates. This work was carried out in a single stop to prevent many unnecessary standstills. Codrico Rotterdam BV recently told us its elevator used for the intake of raw materials was behaving erratically. Wear of the pulley’s lagging was putting the elevator belt out of alignment, so that the misalignment monitoring system issued constant alarms. Closer inspection revealed that the elevator belt was due for replacement, and it needed new wear plates. All this work was combined and the assembly was carried out in a single stop to prevent many unnecessary standstills. Activities progress The drive pulley and the elevator belt were lifted from the elevator together. The first assembly team could then disassemble the elevator buckets, which were still in good condition. The buckets were able to be attached to the new belt immediately because the new elevator belt had already been punched and delivered. Meanwhile the new NBR pulley lagging was applied at the plant’s workshop in Pijnacker in the Netherlands. This type of rubber is highly suitable for

The right drive and return pulleys for optimum transport
For an optimal design and use of an elevator, the elevator belt and the drive and return pulleys are of crucial importance. Elevator belt In ensuring optimal and safe bulk transport, the elevator belt is of crucial importance. This is the heart of the machine and during production it is subject to various loads. Therefore, it is important that all components that come into contact with the elevator belt are carefully selected to ensure maximum service life. Drive and return pulleys In this respect, drive and return pulleys are very important components. They are constructed to suit the elevator belt and the kind of product that is being processed. From drive pulleys and cage pulleys to wing pulleys: our engineers take care of the entire process, from drawing to implementation to guarantee that the elevator belt runs properly and smoothly on the pulleys. Special attention is paid to the crowning of the drive pulley surface, construction strength, shaft connection and static balancing to realize an optimum service life for your elevator belt along with the best production result.
